Thank you for your support!

Here are some highlights of 2023:

  • We hosted a lively Women Lead Oakland forum, a well-attended discussion of how our government works.

  • We distributed voter registration and election materials at various events, including Oaktoberfest in the Dimond District, National Voter Registration Day at Fruitvale BART, and the Building Opportunities for Self Sufficiency August Block Party.

  • We advocated, during city budget negotiations, for funds to implement Oakland’s Fair Elections Act (passed by more than 70% in 2022).

  • We facilitated and encouraged public comment in City Council meetings, consistent with our focus on transparency, accountability and public access.

  • We advocated for changes to our City Charter to account for lessons learned during the redistricting efforts of 2021-22.

  • Our YOUth Decide team registered or pre-registered approximately 150 high school and community college students and provided Oakland high schools with colorful student-designed posters to encourage civic participation.

2024 will be a very busy year with a primary election in March and a general election in November.  We’ll sponsor forums for local and state candidates on the primary ballot.  For the fall election, we’ll inform voters by reaching out to community organizations, sponsoring candidate forums, producing and distributing paper and digital voter guides, explaining ballot measures in videos and newsletters, updating our website, and making presentations.  As funding allows, we will increase our impact through translation services and technical support.

A significant portion of your membership fee also supports the important public policy and advocacy work of the Leagues at the national and state levels. These Leagues also put great effort into challenging voter suppression and promoting nonpartisan redistricting.  Your membership support plays a critical role.
