Centennial Celebration
Thanks to our Centennial sponsors, donors, awardees, volunteers, vendors, and all who attended our lively twilight celebration June 13 in the lovely Camron-Stanford House garden.
Special thanks for the City Council Proclamation, presented by District 7 Council Member Treva Reid, honoring our century of empowering democracy in Oakland.
We are grateful for the opportunity to mingle with friends and meet new ones against the musical background of the West Coast Blues Society Jazz Trio. A Fork in the Road catering provided tasty hors-d’oeuvres and poured a variety of beverages. Volunteers from our Membership, Voter Services, and YOUth DECIDE committees were on site to share their accomplishments and plans. The LWVO history project presented a decade by decade display of the people, events and issues that have animated our League for 100 years and counting.
During our program, our Vice-President, Anna Mathai, recognized the Oaklandside and its Editor-In-Chief, Tasneem Raja, with our "Making Democracy Work" award. Our President, Gail Wallace, recognized two long term members, Bonnie Hamlin and Ernestine Nettles, for their exemplary service to the League over many years.
