Making Democracy Work

Arlie Russell Hochschild Biography

Our speaker for the Luncheon will be Arlie Russell Hochschild, author of nine books, including most recently "Strangers in Their Own Land," a finalist for this November's prestigious National Book Awards. Ms. Hochschild, Professor Emerita at UC Berkeley and one of the nation's preeminent sociologists, has long been concerned with the personal aspects of political movements. For this book, she spent five years immersed in the Tea Party movement in Louisiana in an effort to understand what makes it so emotionally attractive to people.
